Dear Mr Editor,
Rumors have been floating around that I have resigned from my job as Chief Economic Adviser to President U Thein Sein. This is not true. The Facebook item that started this rumor was not written by me. I have no idea who wrote it. I feel sorry for him. He must be very frustrated. He does not seem to realize how much damage it does to our media community.
I always had and will continue to have deep respect for President U Thein Sein. I have no difficulty seeing him and sending my economic briefs to him.
I requested to see him last September, privately and alone. He graciously accepted my request. We had a pleasant, cordial and frank exchange of views. I submitted to him, among other things, that there are some technical shortcomings in the current 2011 - 2015 Five Year National Development Plan as well as defects in our official statistical system that need to be fixed. But I did not want him to micro-manage with technical details of these things and requested him to give me the mandate to take care of them with the Union ministers concerned. He readily agreed to my request. He gave me the mandate. I am undertaking these tasks at present, in close cooperation with the ministers concerned and the donor community.
The summary of the measures to be done with respect to our official statistical system in both English and Myanmar translation are attached. You may wish to publish them if you think that will be useful for our people.
