If one has a semblance of brain, it is well conspicuous that whether China or ASEAN countries or US, or the West for that matter, can invest in Burma or not depends entirely on the President Thein Sein's government alone.

Blaming the impecuniousness of the country as a result of the military rule on Daw ASSK seems a cheap smear campaign by people with parochial ignorance, who are afraid of and stand to lose a lot in today's so-called democratization process.

How on earth is the fact that China is exploiting every element of Burma and in the process, destroying every ethic and mores of Burmese people related to, or worse attributable to, Daw ASSK?

To the anonymous person above whom I quoted, do you really think the people who placed sanctions on Burma only listen to the lady and do not ever use their brain to decide on matters relating to their foreign policies? Do you also think that the thugs who ruled Burma (till now, the same group of men in different outfits less Than Shwe and Maung Aye) are not responsible for the sorry plight of the Burmese? Do you find it perfectly acceptable that the same cronies who benefited massively from the military generals are currently the ones taking charge of the Burmese economy?

We talk about change today in Burma. Everyone does. But what has actually changed for the better for the impoverished majority? We cannot be replacing old cars and buses with new ones and call it democratization. After all, how many percent of the population can afford a modern convenience like even a fridge or a toaster today? At every level of the bureaucratic machine run by the government, the retired military personnel are helping themselves enrich by perpetuating the culture of corruption, malfeasance, irresponsibility and abusive behaviours toward the commoners. Almost all of them are not qualified to be in the positions they have taken and none of them have even a clue about proper discharge of the official duties vested upon them. As long as the right people are not at the right place, nothing good will come out of President Thein Sein's promise of reforms and democratization. Simply, the military do not belong in the parliament or running the affairs of the country and all the generations of Burmese can bear witness and attest to the disastrous result of the half a century of misrule by the thugs whether in uniform or in some fancy garbs. Of course, those thugs will blame Daw ASSK for all the problems again and again.

Sanction is not directly effecting to government. It is hurting the general population.

The root causes of Myanmar’s economy was in dire straits were that the previous administration (Myanmar Tatmadaw) abuse of power and let only a handful of people do the business but suppressing the other small scale traders -- like fattening one goose while strangulating the others. It is not because of the sanctions from the West.
Apparently, targeted sanctions are very effective to the government leaders and their business cronies. It is not effective to the ordinary people of Myanmar at all.
The only problem for me is that, as I am a Myanmar citizen, I cannot open an account at the banks in overseas.
I could still tolerate it because, I know, we had the bad government in Myanmar, until end of March 2011.
I sincerely hope that, at this present juncture, the three leaders of Myanmar -- the government leader President U Thein Sein, the people’s leader Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and Tatmadaw leader Vice Senior-General Min Aung Hlaing – will work together for the benefit of our people.
